in the Notes section (page 384) the author states: "I urge anyone with a yearning for still more
knowledge of Berlin to visit YouTube.com and search for "Symphony of a Great City." You'll
be delighted." This experimental 1927 silent film is the work of German filmmaker
Walter Ruttman(1887-1941). The film is1 hour in length and showcases Berlin of the late 1920s
showing us a Berlin in recovery from WWI, before the next economic crisis and Hitler's influence.
At the time, Berlin was considered a cultural center of Europe, along with Paris and London.
The film is considered a classic, filmed in black and white and originally without a musical score.
Watch it to get a feel for Berlin, for Germany, for innocence before the insanity.
