Liane Moriarty is the oldest of six children in a Catholic family. She was born in 1966
in Sydney, Australia with 4 younger sisters and a brother. Her mother was a foster
mother in the community and fostered around 40 infants while her children were
growing up. The family was interested in books and reading; and, Liane
liked to write stories. Her father commissioned her first novel "The Mystery of Dead
Man's Island," and as Liane earned 1 dollar per volume, it became a series. Liane wrote
a short story that won a prize from a local newspaper, she also enjoyed entertaining
her siblings with made up stories.
