There are animals and birds, geometric figures and ornamental designs sculpted from California Privet, Yew &
English Boxwood.
I have finished reading the last page. Why did the author end the book this way?
As always, I am drawn to read the Acknowledgments (as well as any forward or footnotes......). Let's revisit what the author has to say here in the Acknowledgments:
"There aren't unicorns, there is no Alice Island, and A.J. Firkry's tastes are not
always my own.
Lambiase and the first Ms. Firkry speak variations on the phrase, " A town isn't a town
without a bookstore." Surely, they both must have read American Gods by Neil Gaiman."
I have never read American Gods, (published in 2001, GoodReads gives it 4.11 STARS, its
lengthy at 635 pages), but I love a town with a bookstore.
Remember when Clarkston had the Village Bookstore downtown? I miss it.
Do you remember Borders near Great Lakes Crossing in Auburn Hills? I miss it.
Why do bookstores matter?
How do books define our lives?
If "you are what you read" then who are you?
Come join the discussion this Thursday at 10:00 AM at the CIDLibrary.
We end with a Potluck, come join our feast of food and words.......
