in more than 25 countries. Backman began to take writing seriously in 2007 - he was employed
as a forklift truck driver, but wanted to be a writer. He began writing for publications for free,
eventually being paid where he "became quite proficient in writing about tanning salons!"
At one time he was working 14 hours a day during the weekends to fund his writing time
during the week. It took him one year to complete A Man Called Ove. While
attending a book fair in Sweden a German publisher offered to publish his book & give an
advance for the next one. Finally - he could write full time! En Man Som Heter Ove was published in Sweden , and 2 years later it was released in English as A Man Called Ove. (Backman is also
a blogger & a contributor to magazines.) His book has been published in 32 countries and a film adaptation is being released September 30th. Watch the trailer with English Subtitles:

Fredrik Backman likes to tell stories - he begins with a character. The opening in the book
was inspired by a conversation overheard in a store. In an interview, Backman stated: "The
book doesn't belong to me once it's left the printing house. It's yours."
This is the kind of book you may fall in love with and give to your friends.
