boating, kayaking, Lake Michigan, Lake Huron, Lakeville Lake, yard
work, more yard work, get togethers, dog walking and of course, reading, reading,
reading.....
From weeding outdoors, I have begun weeding indoors, weeding that home
book collection. I tend to gather books I want to read someday,
afraid that if I don't own the book, I will forget I want to read it - someday.....
But realistically, I will never read all the books I have given
a home to; thus, time to review, remember what I have, and release those books
that no longer call my name.
How to determine what stays and what goes?
My method is simple -- I start at the end. I read the last 5 or 6 pages.
Did I like the writing?
Did I like how the author ended the book?
Do I want to read more, preferably from the beginning?
Apparently some books are a mild flirtation; they catch my eye
but have no staying power. Some books are so beloved that I plan
to re-read them one day, someday; but mainly my attention goes to something new
to be experienced and discovered.
I recently finished 2 nonfiction books, armchair traveling once again;
alternating between hiking experiences on Isle Royale in Lake Superior. and
a woman reinventing herself by marrying and moving to France.
Remember when we return to book group (October 5) - bring the titles
of books you would like to share & would recommend. I'll post these selections on this
blog in October.
In September I will begin to post some background information
regarding our first discussion book: The Woman in White by Wilkie Collins.
Until then, soak up the sun, inhale summer, and spend some time in stillness within the
pages of a book.......
