My trip was delayed by a day, but a birthday was celebrated and I ate too much chocolate cake. I admit it, my two weaknesses in life are books and chocolate. My mom has one bookshelf and of course I must peruse it, again. The book that called my name was an old favorite, "Here on Earth" by Alice Hoffman. I remember devouring it after reading "Wuthering Heights" by Emily Bronte. "Here on Earth" struck me as a modern day telling of the Emily Bronte classic. And then I had to watch the movie with Lawrence Olivier. That was a long time ago, but it is a book I am enjoying once again. This book pairing could be a possibility for group discussion and movie viewing.
Today, "Circling the Sun" by Paula McLain and "The Marriage of Opposites: A Novel" by Alice Hoffman (there's that author again) are following me home. You may remember we discussed "The Paris Wife" by Paula McLain in years past. This time Paula McLain is writing historical fiction about Beryl Markham - think aviator and love triangle with safari hunter Denys Finch Hatton and Karen Blixen. More possible discussion books.......
