4 story building, expanding from 80,000 to 100,000 square feet. In contrast, our
Clarkston Independence District Library is 20,000 square feet.
The renovated library occupies the same spot in downtown Kalamazoo; and, in
the basement The Friends of the Library operate their own used bookstore (a favorite
spot to browse when visiting downtown Kalamazoo). The library is visually unique.

"A skylight encircled by holographic mirrors provide a gem-like focal point to the dome's interior, and creates an ever-changing ambiance by casting rainbows on the walls of the rotunda. Neon lighting concealed within the recesses of the rotunda walls emit a turquoise glow, contributing to a magical sense of place."
