So what about Carnegie Libraries in Michigan?
Did you know that Carnegie awarded grants from 1901 -1018 for the purpose of building community libraries?
Michigan was a recipient of that generosity, according to Wikipedia: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Carnegie_libraries_in_Michigan ,
61 Carnegie libraries were built in Michigan. Of those 61 libraries: 28 are still operating as a library, 22 of the buildings have been re-purposed, 11 of the libraries are no longer standing.
Library buildings have been re-imagined as Museums, Banks, Small Businesses, a Chamber of Commerce, School District offices, Art Centers, History Museums, an Architectural Firm, & a Child Care Center. What is missing from this list? No library in Michigan has been converted into a restaurant. You must travel to Indiana to experience that. Thanks Pam, for sharing this library with us.
