a book lover can never be bored, ever, not if there is an available book in their vicinity. You
won't find a closet full of shoes in my house, or a treasure trove of dustable collectibles, no, I
know my true addiction and that is books. There are books in every room of my house & I dream
of a home library where books would all cluster together in the same neighborhood.
Saturday, driving down Telegraph I had the urge to stop in at the Bloomfield Library's Used
Bookstore. The Book Gods must have been smiling on me as Saturday just happened to be their library book sale; just down the stairs and 2 rooms of books to treasure hunt! Wonderful!
And yes, books followed me home, to sit patiently on my shelves until I rediscover them, or
perhaps to be adopted out to a daughter, a friend, a neighbor.....
I believe a good author also shares this intense love for books.
Author Kate Morton states on her website:
"I started writing because I wanted to recapture the joy of reading as a child. As soon
I learned that the black marks on white pages were doorways, and that it was within
my power to go through them (and the back of the wardrobe) whenever I chose to,
I was hooked. I read everything that I could get my hands on and could usually be found
hiding in a bough of one of the avocado trees in our garden, book in hand. I'm still
chasing that feeling of complete immersion, which makes the real world disappear.
There are ups and downs as a writer, but when the fictional world starts to live and
breathe, there's nothing like it."
And...
"...I needed to read. I didn't know what else to do with myself. I still don't. A book
before school, a book afterwards, in the bath, in the car, in the boughs of avocado
trees, in front of the television. I'd read the back of the telephone bill if it was all
I had in front of me...."
Our October 4 discussion book has a Downton Abbey feel to it, there is history,
relationships, romance and a mystery. Our next discussion will be The
House at Riverton by Kate Morton.....
