The author E.M. Forster was born in 1879, his father died less than 2 years later; thus, Forster was raised as an only son by his mother and his aunt. Following graduation, he toured Italy & Greece with his mother; this trip influenced the first novel he began to write, A Room with a View. Forster became known for strong female characters and his support for the more socially liberal Edwardian age of England, which followed the Victorian years. He is best known for his novels: Howards End, Maurice, & A Passage to India. Merchant/Ivory movies in the 1980s based on his novels brought him back into the public's attention. We discuss this book on February 4th at 10 AM at the Clarkston Independence District Library. |
